Mangonui School Goes Camping

Part of the curriculum at Mangonui School is that every child goes on a school camp. This week the two junior classrooms (Nga Ringa Awhina, Pukeko) camped overnight at school doing heaps of activities during the day, fishing, swimming, tramping etc. Kowhai classroom are at Aroha Island (kiwi sanctuary) for two nights.
It is sad so many schools have been scared away from school camps. Yes they are hard work and there is an element of risk but they provide so many opportunities to practice social skills in REAL settings. Watching  two boys in a kayak having to work together to make it go forward rather than in circles required a whole host of skills. They were successful and before long were teaching others!
Next week Active Ferns head to Matai Bay and Tuatara's adventure will be around Ninety Mile Beach.
